About Us

circle-cropped (1)Hi, I’m Bethanie and I’m one half of Lemonade and Literature. I started this blog while studying for a degree in English, and have just started work on it again with my best friend Megan. We’ve been friends since year 5 of primary school when we used to read books like Kelly McKain’s Totally Lucy series (Megan is a classic Tilda character). It’s been almost fourteen years since then and lots of things have changed (including me moving 122 miles away) but our friendship and our love of reading have remained as strong as ever.

For my degree I took a lot of very different modules and so I’ve read quite a different range of books, so I can’t say I have a particular favourite genre- I’d read almost anything. On holidays I read my dad’s old John Grisham novels (The Last Juror is a stand-out for me), if I need something quick to read it’s Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series, if I need to get back into reading, only Donna Tartt’s A Secret History will do. Joseph Heller’s Catch-22, Thomas Harris’ The Silence of the Lambs, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah are among my favourite books.

Working with Megan means taking myself outside of my comfort zone to go back to YA novels- while I’ll admit my guilty pleasure is re-reading Darren Shan’s Demonata series and Darren Shan Saga- it’s been some time since I’ve read any other YA book. Part of the idea for this blog is for us to switch up the type of genres we read, and to read books together so we can see them from different points of view and try something new.

When I’m not reading, I’m most likely to be playing board games with friends, managing my Animal Crossing island, browsing r/AITA (who doesn’t love judging strangers on the internet?) or looking after my tortoise, Tony.

circle-croppedHi there- my name is Megan, and I’m one half of Lemonade and Literature. I’m twenty-two years old, I live in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and I work in a private nursery with 0-4 year olds and I love it! I have a level 3 diploma in Childcare so I’ve had a lot of experience in playgroups and nurseries.

My main passions are reading and writing, and since I love working with kids, I have a special place in my heart for children’s literature and picture books. One day I would love to write my own  novel, whether that’s YA (young adult), children’s fiction, a picture book or true crime- I’m not fussy!

I mostly read YA contemporary/romance, women’s fiction, children’s books (definitely no age limit!) and recently I have fallen in love with the true crime genre. I used to be obsessed with dystopian YA and fairy-tale retellings when I was a teenager but I haven’t read either genre since then.

Some other random things I love are…gin, cats, Rupaul’s Drag Race, The Vicar of Dibley, 80’s music..and cake!
